Celebrating Your Heritage

Celebrating Your Heritage By Retracing Your Roots

When the Buchanans wanted to do something special for their 40th anniversary, they decided to take their family to their ancestral homeland. The trip would be a tour of Scotland and would include stops in Edinburgh, the Highlands and the Isle of Skye.

To arrange their 10-day trip, the Buchanans contacted Maritz Journeys. The goal was to deliver a trip of lifetime to their children by giving them authentic Scottish experiences and a peek into their family's past.

Sheep wandered in the streets as the family made its way through their tiny ancestral homeland of Drymen. This small village, east of Loch Lomond, is home to the Buchanan Castle, which was built in 1854 by the 4th Duke of Montrose. In fact, the village is so small and off the beaten path that our local partner, Francis, drove two hours just to visit the hotel and to assure it was up to our standards before booking the night for our guests.

From amazing stays in a private island resort to sipping tea with the Duke of Montrose's brother, the Buchanans found a connection that brought them closer together with their family…both past and present. All of which would not have been possible without the exclusive connections of Maritz Journeys.
